Family-friendly winery? Is that even possible? If you live near Westfield, Indiana you’ll find it’s not an oxymoron at all! Although Urban Vines is fun to visit year-round, summer is the perfect time to include the whole family on an outing to the winery.
Set just a few miles off of US-31, Urban Vines has a rustic, welcoming vibe. Although the tasting room is for adults only, the patio is kid friendly. The patio is filled with plenty of picnic tables and is enclosed in the winter. We’ve spent many afternoons out there listening to live music and playing games with our older children. But, even young kids can be easily entertained if you bring along a few toys.
When the weather is nice, there is a playground sure to entice your little ones. Grab yourself a glass of wine and enjoy watching them burn off energy. While you linger nearby chatting with friends and enjoying the delicious drinks. In addition to a lovely selection of local wines, Urban Vines also makes their own beer and ciders. In the summer you can even indulge in a wine slushy.
If your kids are picky eaters, feel free to bring in your own food. Or create your own charcuterie board consisting of your favorite selections of local meats and cheeses. On the weekend, the family-friendly winery also offers delicious flatbreads. Each one easily serves 2 (or one very hungry person).
Family Friendly winery?
Every weekend in the summer, a variety of concerts are offered. Many are free. But the larger groups do include a $10 parking fee. The Summer Music Series is very popular. So, come early if you want a good spot. Or bring a blanket and relax on the lawn. Be sure to check the events calendar to see who’s playing each week.
In addition to live music, Urban Vines offers fun weekly activities. Such as bingo, trivia, yoga and even Mommy and Me painting classes. My teens are big fans of the Disney Trivia. We’ve had some fun girls night at Bingo in the past. Going over to Urban Vines is an easy way to add a little excitement to your week without breaking the bank.
Wine tastings are a reasonable $5 and you can pick five wines to try. You can enjoy a glass of wine, beer or cider for about $6. They also offer a flight of three wines for $15 or a flight of three beers for $6 to $9 (depending upon the beers you choose). We’ll often start the evening with a tasting and then decide on a drink to enjoy while visiting with family and friends.
Try something new. Check out this family-friendly winery with your family this summer. Be pleasantly surprised at how a “grown-up” place can be such a treat for the entire family! Love this outing? Check out my recent trip to Sugar Creek Winery in Carmel for another family-friendly winery. Or, if coffee is more your thing, enjoy a family-friendly coffee shop at Nine Lives Cat Cafe near Fountain Square.
